The Mayan civilization spread into the area of Belize between 1500 B.C. and 300 A.D. and flourished until about 1200. European exploration campaigns began in 1502 when Christopher Columbus sailed along the Gulf of Honduras.

Belize has a diverse society, composed of many cultures and languages that reflect its rich history. English is the official language of Belize. Belize's abundance of terrestrial and marine species and its diversity of ecosystems give it a key place in the globally significant Mesoamerican Biological Corridor.

We work hard to understand your interests and expectations so that we may match you with the best guide for your needs. So please let us know what you are wanting out of this trip so that we may talk with the guides offered through Anglers Abroad to ensure our best efforts in dialing in your experience!

We also offer fly casting lessons here at Sportsman’s Finest to get you and your cast ready for the trip. If this interests you please inquire with me and we can get you on the calendar for a lesson.

Flats Fishing

A day on the flats you will have opportunities to cast at bonefish, tarpon, and the famed permit! I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw a snook or two as well. Various other reef fish can be seen and targeted, however, the few listed above are the main species sought after at Sea Dreams/Anglers Abroad. 7, 8, 9 and 10wt fly rods are appropriate for this type of fishing with matching reels and lines.

Flats Fishing

Sea Dreams / Anglers Abroad does have a small collection terminal tackle available for your last-minute needs; also they keep spinning and fly equipment that can be rented. We recommend that you take with you as much of the gear that you will be using on your trip. A good mix of leaders and tippets can be found here at Sportsman’s Finest that will take care of your entire Belizean fly fishing needs. Popular fly patterns for the area change periodically, but our staff keep up to date on what our guides prefer in the area that you will be fishing and a good stock of all that you will need.

Additional Insight

You will notice that the fishing packages do not include dinner. This island is small, easy, and fun to walk. There are many different restaurant options on the island. Haywood or the ladies at the desk of Sea Dreams are happy to tell you their favorites; I really enjoy Wish Willy’s! It is a back yard Caribbean BBQ style place that seems to fit just right for the island life.

Local Food

Wish Willy, a.k.a. Maurice Moore, is a cool, tall rasta guy. Born in Belize and raised in Chicago, USA, where he became a chef. In the late 90's he decided to go back to his roots and started his restaurant Wish Willy on Caye Caulker. He didn't have a smooth start, because the first year Hurricane Mitch destroyed almost his complete restaurant.

But he moved on and now he has one of the most popular restaurants on the island and is well known all over the island, the country of Belize and even when he is in Europe, people recognize him. When you come for dinner to Wish Willy, Maurice will certainly take care of and entertain you; either with his never-ending stories or his tasteful food.

Travel to Caye Caulker

Traveling to Caye caulker

Houston (Hobby) airport offers a direct flight to Belize City. From there you can either take a Tropical air flight to Caye Caulker or you can book a trip on the water taxi. Whichever way you travel from Belize City to Caye Caulker, Sea Dreams staff will be waiting for you upon arrival to help you get to the hotel, by means of golf cart since there are no cars on the island! This golf cart ride is great since you will get your first glimpse of the island.

There are never any up charges when booking through Sportsman's Finest.
