Sportsman’s Finest is Austin’s premier provisioner of hunting and fly-fishing supplies. Located at the corner of Bee Cave Road and Highway 71, we have served the outdoor aficionado for more than 22 years. The store was founded by Mr. Charles Dorrance in 2003, emphasizing a passion in the outdoors and unique specialty firearms procurement for the discerning customer. Sportsman’s Finest has since expanded and grown into a specialty retail boutique emphasizing a wide variety of firearms, optics, rods, reels, gear and apparel. 

We are hunters, fishermen and women. Currently owned and operated by Tres and Alison Frey, multi-generation Texans born and raised in Austin. We are proud of our State, we love our city, and we cherish our community. From Port O’Connor, to Rockport, to Baffin Bay, to Port Mansfield, we have fished for sea trout, redfish and black drum. We have hunted for red heads and pintails along the Texas Coast. We hunt whitetail in Llano, Texas. We have pursued wild pronghorn and free-range aoudad in North and Southwest, Texas.  We also seek adventures beyond our Texas borders. Tres recently completed a hunt in the Gila National Forrest in pursuit of a 400+ elk in unit 23, one of the greatest physical hunting quests in America. Tres also started his pursuit of the grand slam of sheep, with a rocky mountain sheep in the renown Wildmore of British Columbia, Canada in 2024. This year he will be pursuing his Dall sheep in Northwest Canada and his Desert sheep in the Diablo Mountains of Texas. He will attempt to finish the Grand Slam of Sheep in the Yukon, with a Stone Sheep, in 2026.  

We support wildlife conservation in Texas and our local guide and outfitter community. We advocate for the Coastal Conservation Association (“CCA”), the Texas Wildlife Association, and The Wild Sheep Foundation. We are proud to be affiliated with renown local guides and outfitters such as JT Van Zandt and Jim Breck Bean, among countless others. 

We are expert provisioners. We carry high-quality traditional brands such as Simms, Orvis, Filson and Sitka but are also excited to offer great local brands such as Howler Brothers, Yeti, Poncho, Sendero Provisions Co., and Turtle Box Audio. We work with partners in the firearms industry to bring a wide variety of solutions for upland, dove, duck, and quail hunting such as Benelli, Caesar Guerini and Blaser Jagdwaffen GmbH. We have a large inventory of handguns based on years of experience with leading manufacturers such as SIG SAUER, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Arms, Heckler and Koch, Nighthawk, Atlas and Staccato 2011. We sell modern rifles for small and large game pursuits, such as Christianson Arms and Bergara. We build our own custom precision rifles under the Sportsman’s Finest Precision™ brand, using the finest in actions, bottom metal, barrels, optics, triggers and build specifications. We are passionate about carbines and have strong partnerships with Novesky, SIG Sauer, and Heckler and Koch. We offer specialty gunsmith services with certified gunsmiths. We create tailored, concierge procurement options for unavailable or difficult to unavailable items. We have casting and shooting instructors, a certified appraiser, a safety and compliance officer, lawyer partners for suppressor and class 3 trusts, and an array of hosted and trusted experience partners to keep you engaged in the activities you love. We carry a deep selection of fly-fishing rods and reels, such as Abel, Hatch, Lamson and Ross, R.L. Winston, Sage and TRO. We carry line, leaders and tippets, flies and fishing gear.
