Fishery
The Yampa is viewed by some as the finest trail water fishery in the state of Colorado. Home to cutthroat, brook, rainbow, and brown trout; there should be no shortage of opportunities to bring fish to the net.
Your average rainbow and brown trout are typically 14-20” long.
But there are definitely large brown trout are swimming around and it is not uncommon to catch a true trophy.
Guides
The team we chose to guide your days on the river were voted #1 outfit in Steamboat Springs. These are some of the most qualified guides in the state. Yampa Valley Anglers are quite literally at the top of their game in the fly fishing community, and happy to share their skills with us on this trip.
Host
This trip is special to us because we are sending one of our best. This trip will be hosted by the one and only Ted Mendrek. If you do not already know him, Ted has spent a lifetime in the outdoors. He is a certified casting instructor, master fly tier, 10 years seasoned Alaskan fly fishing guide, or as we like to say in the shop "the consummate outdoorsman." When not in the shop you will find him roaming the middle coast of Texas chasing redfish with his fly rod. Ted’s wealth of knowledge of the gear and the fish will be of great assistance for all who choose to join him on this trip.
Lodging
Yampa Valley Anglers dedicates the prime month of fishing each year (June) to hosted trips only. They rent out one of two different luxurious homes in the area to house their guests. Each room is based on double occupancy.
All couples will share their own space. Each meal is prepared by a private chef who is focused on Western Family style meals. Please feel free to bring along your favorite bottle of bourbon. Only beer and wine are included with this package. There will also be a Yampa Valley Anglers Shuttle to bring you into town for any need you may have.
Travel
Austin airport flies direct to Denver. From Denver to Steamboat Springs it is about a 3-hour drive. You can also take a short flight from Denver to Hayden, CO airport and the shuttle service will bring you to our lodging. Since there is a private Yampa Valley Anglers shuttle, you will not need a vehicle while joining us on this hosted trip.
